Evander Kane already lost 2021: declares bankruptcy
Per USA Today: Sharks forward Evander Kane filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy Saturday, according to a petition in federal bankruptcy court in San Jose, California, acquired by The Athletic. According to the filing obtained by The Athletic,, Kane is nearly $27 million in debt and faces six active lawsuits, court actions and administrative proceedings with lending agencies. The 29-year-old Kane signed a seven-year, $49 million deal with the Sharks two years ago. The filing noted that Kane may not play this season “because of health concerns given the recent birth of his first child.” However, the Sharks’ opt out date was Dec. 24, and Kane has been participating in training camp. Evander Frank Kane (born August 2, 1991) is a Canadian professional ice hockey left winger for the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League (NHL). Kane was selected fourth overall in the first round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Atlanta Thrashers. During his major junior career, Kane won the Memorial Cup with the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League (WHL) in 2007, finished as runner-up for the Jim Piggott Memorial Trophy as WHL rookie of the year in 2008 and was named to the WHL West First All-Star Team in 2009. Kane also set the Giants’ franchise record for single-season goals in 2008–09.
